OPENING REMARKS
Nancy Campbell opened the meeting and welcomed everyone.  Everyone present introduced. Butch Pair from Jackie’s informatics class was a visitor

PRESENTATION
Karen Henry, Senior Analyst, Security Team Coordinator presented the January meeting.  She is an RN at Eastern Health system responsible for IT Security. 

The topic was HIPAA Security Regulation and the Clinical Environment

* HIPAA Security Regulation is in full effect April 21, 2005 @00:01 AM
* 79% regs are NOT about Technology
* Applies to any information that started as electronic info
* Security regs only deal with electronic info
* Privacy regs deals with all info
* Authentication methods are not mandated, but two-part authentication is best
* Pay attention to physical methods to protect data – monitor placement, etc
* Do not destroy pt data
* Security regs require that data is accessible
* Discussion of assigning new users and terminations
* Researchers need to go to institutional review board for OK. Make sure you aren’t helpful to researchers unless you know they have been approved by the board

* 1 CEU was provided by Eastern Health Service

OLD BUSINESS:
* Checks for dues should be made out to ASCI and mailed
* Dues should be sent in by the end of February to remain in good standing
