OPENING REMARKS
Nancy Campbell opened the meeting and welcomed everyone.  Everyone present introduced themselves.

PRESENTATIONS
o Jackie Moss made an educational presentation entitled “Representing Clinical Practice in Clinical Information Systems: The ABCs of Nursing Terminologies”.
1. Discuss the value of using standardized terminologies for nursing documentation.
2. Identify the components of standardized terminologies.
3. Compare classification and reference terminology systems.
o Jackie noted that if anyone wanted to develop standard terminology for a discrete process such as pain or decubitus management that she would be willing to work with them.
o 1 CEU was provided by Montclair Baptist Health System.

OLD BUSINESS:
o The organization’s affiliation with Alabama Hospital Association was approved
o Dues will be collected in January
* Check’s should be made out to ASCI
* Dues should be sent to the Treasurer:

* Dues should be sent in by the end of February to remain in good standing 
o Jackie provided a report on the Alliance for Nursing Informatics (ANI).  
* She will be our group’s liason to ANI.  
* ANI has a tool kit for start up organizations such as ours that may be accessed at HIMSS.org\ASP\Nursing\toolkit.asp.  
* ANI is starting a listserv, but it’s not open as yet.  
* ASCI will need to send a representative to HIMSS on Sunday, Feb. 13. 6:00 - 8:00 PM to attend an ANI meeting/dinner.  
o Becky Favor volunteered to do this since she is working in the Dallas area. 
o Presentations for future meetings include:
* Karen Henry, Senior Analyst, who is the Security Team Coordinator will be presenting at the January meeting.  She is an RN at Eastern Health system responsible for IT Security.  
* UAB will present their Implementation Strategy at the February meeting.
