During Lunch Jackie provided attendees a brief overview of the history of ASCI and future activities. ASCI ( Alabama Society of Clinical Informatics) was formed to offer educational programs designed to promote an understanding of clinical informatics and the technology used to support patient care and to facilitate the interchange of ideas and information between clinical informatics specialists. Membership open not only to Nurses but all clinical disciplines that utilize technology in the delivery of patient care. Meetings are held quarterly along with speakers and Nursing CEU offered at each meeting. ASCI would like topics of interest for presentation and volunteers for the education committee. Website- http://www.asci.bravehost.com By-Laws and minutes from past meetings are available on the website Alliances-ANI (Alliance for Nursing Informatics), AHA ( Alabama Hospital Association), Alabama HIMS and an informal relationship with CARING (Capital Area Roundtable on Informatics in Nursing - Nursing Informatics Group) Future plans are to develop a brochure to “advertise” ASCI for promotion of membership and provide Mission Statement and general information about the organization. The Education session was presented by Sharon Jones, Director of Nursing for the Women’s and Children Center at St. Vincents Hospital, Birmingham, Al. The topic was “Stratagies for Sucessful Implementation”. 1.2 CEU’s were provided. Jackie Moss is currently serving as President and Beverly Golightly as Treasurer. Checks are to be made out to ASCI not AlaHA Education Committee Report: Tony Ruffino Discussion: Tony Ruffino is head of the Education committee and is asking for volunteers to serve on this committee. Would like ASCI members to offer topics of interest or if any one knows of a speaker that may want to share experiences. Next meeting is May 12th and at this time there is no education offering. Susan Prince ( new ASCI member) of Huntsville is preseting at the ALAHIMS meeting in April on Workflow Efficiencies ANI Report Jackie Moss Discussion: The Alliance for Nursing Informatics is a collaboration of organizations that represent a unified voice for nursing informatics. The Alliance represents more than 3,000 nurses and brings together 20 distinct nursing informatics groups in the United States that function separately at local, regional, national and international levels and have established programs, publications and organizational structures for their members. ANI provides the synergy and structure needed to advance the efforts of nursing informatics professionals in improving the delivery of patient care.
